while my younger friends are rightly up in arms and organizing, if they can, against the current crop of wars, the wars of just 30 years ago are erased from popular culture. El Sal is about the size of Mass., and unlike Nicaragua, really has no vast woods and mountains remote areas. Reagan spent over 6 BILLION dollars to prop up a torture regime. This war filled our lives, at the time. i truly commend this to my anti war allies who werent around at the time. These wars aremnt mistakes...... they arent a bug in the system. They are a very costly feature.......... Those of us opposing this butchery were labeled.... well, you know. In 91 (?) I was a ballot observer in some remote village in the back of beyond- Arcatao, in Chalatanango Province, not far from the Rio Sumpul Massacre, where (our) El Sal Army had forced people to flee to the river border w/ Honduras, where (our) Honduran Army gunned them down as they tried to flee. It was the scaredest I had ever been, in my life...... picked up a (US) 7.62 Nato case from the site of a government massacre.... still have it.
