who are we to decide exactly what body of knowledge every 12 year - TopicsExpress

who are we to decide exactly what body of knowledge every 12 year old should have? imagine if we forgot about grade levels and started focusing on aptitude levels. there are 750 students at my kids school, and likely 750 different ways of intake and processing of information, 750 different speeds if you will. what if your first thought wasnt that kid didnt pass the EOG for Xth grade? why didnt he learn it? we taught it..., but rather how did we let that child down? why dont we take another look at how we are teaching him/her? why do we expect the same pace and the same capacity from every child?. i submit that if the kids didnt learn it the way we are teaching it to them, that our first thought should be that we are doing it wrong. kids are amazing creatures with amazing brains. grade levels and curriculum standards, as it turns out, are more of a limit than an incentive. blow up the school paradigm. its time, and its possible. if we expect greatness from them, they will give it to us. live like the highest standards, in whatever you do, are merely SOP.
