why i greatly dislike walmart. in particular the walmart across from my hotel half way between Raleigh and Durham NC. at 5:00pm on a sunday afternoon they have 4 count them 4 checkout lanes open. the parking lot is completely full and the aisles are packed with people. i find the one ONE 10 items or less line and there is (i am sure a very nice couple in their late 20s early 30s with their 2 5yo ish kids) in line near the front and then a young man with a pair of work boots then me. the (once again i am sure they are very nice) couple have a shopping cart FILLED TO THE BRIM!! with enough clothes for at least 3 school years, did i say i was in the 10 items or less line? for 15 minutes we stand in line now the line behind me is at least 15 people long and the couple behind me are standing in my back pocket at this point. finally i see a manager come out and say oh no not this and proceed to open 1 new checkout every 5 minutes or so. after about 30 min the (i am sure very nice couple) with all the clothes has to go back through their basket to find the matching shirts or pants to the other pants or shirt that has already been rang in. did i mention that there were at least 4 walmart employees at the 10 items or less checkout?? just standing there. at this point people start lineing up at the checkout next to me (no walmart employee here yet!) but then all of a sudden BAM the checkout is open! nevermind telling the people in the 10 item or less line (the man with just a pair of boots me with 7 items, the couple in my pocket with 6 items and the other 16 people behind them also with fewer than 10 items). end of rant for now. man i really cant stand that place.
