**** why it is a good thing for dogs to go in fostercare before adoption** * We have had questions about why a dog cant go straight to a new home, why are foster homes so important.....so I thought to tell you a bit why it is important and why we think fosterhomes are the most important link between the former home and the new family -when we get a dog into our care, from a mill, a shelter or a rehome we really dont know anything about that dog, the only thing we know is what we hear from the former owner or the place he was surrendered too. - when they come from a puppy mill they have had no house training, they are scared, not socialized, used and abused and they need medical care, and lots of love and patience, they need to be assessed , and put in all different situations, so we can see how they are with other dogs, cats, kids, man, new people, car rides, vets etc. puppy mill dogs are normally in foster care for a longer time before they are ready to move on to their new homes, and these homes have to be carefully selected..when you get a puppy mill dog it will not be a quick fix, there will be set backs, you will need more then patience and its a long road, but one that is so worth it, to see those little baby steps being made by that sweet dog means the world and there is nothing better then seeing them starting to trust and leaving the past behind them. - shelter dogs , they will not act the same way in a shelter then when they are out of there, the noise, the barking, the killing days, that all affects them more then you know, and they are scared,..the shelter does an assessment and we get that but that still does not say much..... when we pick them up they go to the foster home that matches with the info they give us at the shelter. then when they are in the care, it takes weeks before they start showing who they really are, are they more dominant, are they shy etc. or just huge love bugs with no problems at all and then the fosterhome, and when needed a trainer will work with them . from all the information we receive from the foster family and the trainer we then start posting up for adoption and we match the berner up with the best matched home. - rehomes...nobody gives up a perfect dog... there have been a few cases that the owner passed away or sick, then there has been no isses, but for most rehomes there is a reason, and we will wont know about these till the dog is in our care, then they get exposed to everything, and again it takes a bit of time before they start to relax and show who they really are, and then the foster and when needed trainer will start working with the berner, rehomes sometimes are up for adoption very fast because they really just need a bit of training, but we match the dogs up with the right homes so they dont end up going from home to home. - we do get puppies too, they get placed a bit faster, most of them are just pups and need puppy training all dogs get a vet check up , spay and neuter, and medical care when needed and they get micro chipped . we recommend training, when you bring your rescue home, it works, it helps with bonding and its important, no matter if you get a rescue or a puppy from a breeder, get them in classes, get a trainer, it is so good for the dogs and for you too. we could not do what we do without fosterhomes
