with all these race train pics ive just recalled a very early childhood memory. our family going to the taheranikau races in the old boneshaker carriage train. been scared in the fairly recently opened rimutaka tunnel, until the train emerged into the daylight. but the memory I most endear to is watching the guard on the way back from the race meeting,individualy lighting all the gas lights in the carriage, and of coarse those big old red railway seats with the big wrought iron armrests.
