with tears flowing out of my eyes I yesterday in the morning - TopicsExpress

with tears flowing out of my eyes I yesterday in the morning finished reading the book Nicht alle waren Mörder - Eine Kindheit in Berlin by Michael Degen (born on January 31st 1932 in Berlin, the same day like the composer Franz Schubert; and today´s Holocaust Memorial Day is on the birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), -the father of my dear school mate Elisabeth Degen from times in a private school in Berlin-Zehlendorf. In this book Michael Degen tells about his childhood in Berlin during the darkest time of the Nazi terror, especially about the years in which he and his mother lived hidden in Berlin because their lives were all the time in danger because of being jewish. The father of Michael Degen had been beaten nearly to death by Nazis and died than some days later. I recommend this book to all of you who are able to read the german language. Than yesterday I started to read his book Mein heiliges Land in which he describes his search for his older brother in the young Israel in 1949. Michael Degen afterwards returned again to Berlin. Who not knows much about the Nazi terror times in Germany between 1933 and 1945 should read his book Nicht alle waren Mörder - Eine Kindheit in Berlin. I do not know if this true book is translated into other languages. Unfortunately this Nazi virus seems to still exist in people. One example for it are experiences which his dear daughter Elisabeth made in this school around three years after I had been leaving this private school in Berlin-Zehlendorf. Deeply shocked I had read about her experiences some days ago in an interview with her in the newspaper Jüdische Allgemeine (I googeled her name when I remembered her suddenly again on the 80th birthday of Elvis Presley on January 8th and than I had read this interview in this german jewish newspaper Jüdische Allgemeine from nearly ten years ago) from some years ago. A teacher at this school (a very lightless person) as well as than also pupils there were full of hate against her only because she is jewish, so that she needed to learn to defend herself with fight techniques. This happened to her in this school in 1985 -when I remember it correctly- and it shows that 40 years after the end of the Nazi regime in Germany still this Nazi virus controlled people who had no own consciousness and on whom this virus had been transmitted. On today´s International Holocaust Remembrence Day (because of the liberation of the concentration camp Auschwitz today 70 years ago by russian troups -unfortunately a lot of the russian soldiers did terrible things to jewish women and jewish girls after having liberated the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau) I I would like to recommend to you to read the true book Nicht alle waren Mörder - Eine Kindheit in Berlin by Michael Degen to get a true impression about this time in which this lightless Nazi regime infected millions of people (but not everybody) with their Nazi virus.
