yes, very nice story about this tune recently re-issued by our subsidiary label Digital Traders .In 1995 I was recording at Conscious Sounds every week. It was the early days of the label and towards the end of that year we made a pair of riddims which ended up as the third release, titled Judgement Day and Conquering Lion. Recorded in the attic of Dougie’s house, the tunes were released on Jah Warrior 12 inch in spring 1996 and they went down a storm on sound systems. Conquering Lion was one of those headtop tunes that just came out of nowhere but worked. Sometimes I’d try different basslines and it’d take a while to find one that sounded right but I remember the fast steppers drum pattern laid down by Dougie lent itself to the first bassline I came up with. With some piano, keyboard and digital horn lines it quickly became a solid lift up your foot and skank steppers. One of those tunes where everything just fitted together without trying. I recall the reaction was good and the vinyl sold out quite fast. The 12 inch was never repressed and has been unavailable for many years. Now comes the chance to get hold of it on 7 inch, featuring the original first cut together with a previously unreleased dub mix on the B side, courtesy of Digital Traders who’ve reissued it. Conquering Lion is available at Reggaemusicstore reggaemusicstore/product.asp… Jah Warrior Bandcamp, Reggaemusicstore & Roots Traders on Discogs, Jahmusicstore on Ebay, Blakamixshop, Dub Vendor and all good record stores. Check it out and support roots music! JAH WARRIOR
