yesterday morning l found that $30 was taken from my checking acct. l called the bank and was told it was an automatic withdrawal Needless to say l never authorized it. My daughter researched this and found out it is a wide spread fraud affecting thousands of people. l had to get my acct no. changed which means notifying everyone who l pay automatically and (luckily or me) notify the 1 person to whom l had written a check. My banker (who was more helpful than a dozen Boy Scouts helping an old lady across the street) told me if anyone asks for your checking acct number give them your debit card number instead. lf that gets compromised it is easy to issue a new card.
