She can not hide behind the Israeli democracy and claim freedom of speech. Democracy doesn’t mean that everybody can do whatever they like. There are many laws that restrict and obligate citizens. Freedom of speech is also not unlimited – even in a democracy. Nobody is suggesting that MK Zehava Galon should not be in the Knesset – despite her insane and immoral ideas and attitude. Nobody is suggesting that Gideon Levy loose his citizenship, despite the hateful, repugnant, and vile articles that he writes. Hannin Zuabi is not even being rejected for being an arab or a woman. Hannin Zuabi actively supports terror, stating that kidnapping and murdering teenagers is legitimate. She sailed on the marmara, attacking Israel and Israeli soldiers. She uses the democratic tools of parliament and free speech to destroy the very same democracy. This is not acceptable. The political left can not morally support her. Since Rabin was murdered, the left’s mantra used to silence the right is “words can kill”. Yes, words shape thought and actions – if they didn’t we’d have a lot of unemployed marketing and advertising people running around, and parents would have to find other ways to educate their children. By the same token that the left disqualified Kahana, and complain about calling Rabin a traitor – by the same token the left should be the first in line to kick Zuabi out.
