youtu.be/9s9t5ZEdcTA Mountain dulcimer players often play old-time string band music because it dates back to the roots of our Southern Appalachian instrument. Bluegrass is different and newer than old-time. Old-time and bluegrass musicians rarely played together in the past decades (different instrumentation, more vocals in bluegrass). Old-time was often dance music so it has exciting rhythms and melodic tunes. Now wonderful things are happening between old-time and bluegrass music, and we have 3 choices: old-time, bluegrass, and old-time/bluegrass. Great for the music! Lois Hornbostel
