In this month of remembrance I also remember its 70 years last September since the battle of Arnhem - operation market garden (the film a bridge too far told the story). My Dad was very lucky to have survived the battle; so very many didnt. In an effort to shorten the war by a year 10 thousand soldiers descended on this Dutch corridor into Germany. Unfortunately it failed, German soldiers fleeing from France were not going to stand aside and let the allies in, they joined forces and ferociously attacked. Many of our soldiers didnt return, also many thousands of civilians died that winter as consequence - the horror of war... and why we should never forget. A few years ago I found the pathe news clip which has the only moving image of my Dad that I have (frames 59 and 60 seconds), hes the guy with the curly hair far right of the line up looking through a pile of guns. An incredibly brave man who I miss every day x
