youtu.be/Wzm0nh2Q1ak I saw this short video here on Facebook tonight and it reminded me of a time when I caught a foul ball in Chicagos Wrigley Field. Oddly enough, one of my friends who was at the game with me was just talking about that same trip. J Geoff Malta, Roxanne Wiese and Rolando Capinpin were all at the same game although they were sitting far away from me. My friend Lori and I were sitting on the first base side of home plate about 20 rows back. She was afraid of getting hit by a foul ball and I assured her that there was nothing to worry about. Well, in the eighth inning A Ramirez was at bat and he popped a foul heading our way. I stood up, never taking my eye off the ball and raised my hands to catch it. Problem was, ten other people did the same thing. Lo and behold the ball came to rest in my hand. I sat down to show the ball to Lori and then saw she was covered by two guys who fell onto her from behind while trying to get the ball. I As I was showing off the ball Lori started to scream, and then I realized my hand was bleeding all over me. One of the assholes sitting behind us had tried to catch the ball using his plastic beer cup and that broke in my hand as the ball landed. Lori was screaming to one of the ushers for help and it must have been some sort of divine intervention that the only first aid station in Wrigley Field was in the same section in which we were sitting. They were able to stop the bleeding and I had to take a cab to the hospital to get eight stitches in my hand. We called my friends (who were sitting in the bleachers) to tell them we were leaving the ballpark. Geoffs only question - did I still have the ball?? LOL Hard to believe that was ten years ago.
