youtu.be/_bHhpufKRjs Pop emergency?! Heard it all before...Yawn. Any thoughts? Vamping on a nagging synth riff, Lady Gaga gets the pulse rate high quickly in Applause while she delivers the verses in an almost stiff, half-spoken manner. The chorus kicks the vocals higher and faster, catching up to the rest of the song’s energy, and the synthesised drums serve almost as handclaps. Hands in the air isn’t just her request (“put your hands up, make them touch,” she sings) but the likely result. All good so far for another half radio/half dancefloor hit, just don’t expect to hear something new. If Gaga has some revelatory material coming she’s saving it for the new album, Artpop, for this more pop than art and mostly routine Gaga: electro dance done with verve rather than ultra excitement. Lady Gaga has declared a “pop music emergency” and has rush-released her new single after it was leaked online. The singer’s first tune from her new album ARTPOP, entitled Applause, was illegally posted on the internet last week. Gaga was planning to officially release Applause on August 19, but she has decided to push the single’s availability forward in light of the circumstances. "Due to hackers an abundance of low/high quality leaks…We issue this pop music emergency…monsters spread the word," Gaga tweeted on Monday. "My new single Applause is out today and can be heard on united states radio in 15 minutes. International radio to follow," she wrote. Although Gaga was initially upset by the leak, she is now taking it in her stride. Shortly after the leaks began she tweeted “Lord in heaven why” and “you just couldn’t wait, this is too much for one Saturday”. Legions of fans launched their own anti-piracy campaign and started providing track links to Universal Music, which was working to remove them. The “monsters”, as they like to be known as, even began bragging about how many links they had provided and Gaga retweeted her fans anti-piracy shout outs. The star says she is grateful for her fans and is excited about people listening to her new music. A YouTube video of the song released over a week ago had more than 200,000 hits while her official video has only just launched. "I love being a popstar! We are cheering for you monsters, standing ovation for the worlds most amazing fans!" she tweeted. "Im on the radio i can’t believe it! It feels like the first time! Thank you so much for your Applause, We are so happy you love it!" Gaga will debut the single live at the MTV Video Music Awards at the end of this month.
