youtube/watch?v=C36llSobVHc. As much as I deplore the overuse of all the credits saved till a movies end, very often this practice is warranted. West Side Story is a great example for several reasons. 1) At the time of its release, it was rare and unorthodox foe a movie not to open with credits. Deviating from the norm made West Side Story unique. Plus, the film really needed to get the story going quicker. 2) The end credits serve an important purpose to the audience. The movie ends on a very tragic note. Having all the credits at the end set to music helps the audience compose themselves. The music itself proves to be very soothing. 3) The credits that Saul Bass created are very creative. Their designed to reflect both the films urban environment and the history of a conflict.
