youtube/watch?v=ZYZgbgJdvc0 I did not write this, but this is important for everyone to understand and take with them every day of their lives: It would be a tragedy if we can’t meet our goal to honor the fallen. It may be hard for some of the youth to realize why this is so important. We are living in a time when the military has been dragged through the mud, image-wise. The war-weariness is getting to a lot of people, and now our young people are exposed to the potential of US involvement in Syria and who-knows-where-else. The question “why war?” is front and center for many young people. Good question, and one that has a different answer for every battle, every war, every time period in History, and every analyst (or not) that you’re getting your answer from. The fact remains that we seek to honor fallen soldiers because these individuals, not “the US,” not “the military,” but these individuals, were willing to take a bullet (even capture and worse) for the ideal of freedom. If you are free to decide what to do today, or tonight, or tomorrow, you owe a debt of gratitude to a Veteran. There are many people on this globe who would love to have soldiers to pay their respects to, if only they had soldiers to thank; soldiers willing to risk their lives to defend the freedom of their nation’s civilians. That isn’t the purpose of the military, nor any of the soldiers, in many places around the world. America is still the only country people have risked their lives to come to for over 200 years. The very least we can do is raise enough money once a year to thank those who have made it possible, and by all means, show up on December 14 at Depot Park and personally say “thank you” to any Veterans you are privileged enough to meet. By all means, ask them to sponsor a Wreath (or several)! You can find links to beautiful Wreaths Across America pictures all over the internet if you want to know what the cemeteries will look like when all is said and done. You will be so glad you participated. Our Squadron has been hugely honored by taking on Wreaths Across America, and it’s my hope that we’ll do it justice. If you will, please refer to the post with the image of the form to purchase a wreath for a deceased Veteran and support our Cadets in our local Kalispell Composite Squadron. The wreaths are $15.00
