youtube/watch?v=ng3l4vEN3Dk A bit lengthy but this is the final scene to one of my all time favorite movies. I dedicate this to all of my friends that teach or have been teachers. If you have never seen this - it is about a man that always dreamed about becoming a famous musician and writer. Along the way reality and responsibility forced him to teach to provide for his family. The movie follows him and the students he taught over the years until we find him old and sad because he never wrote his opus (even though he had been writing a song over the years.) Like so often these days his school decides to cut music and the arts due to budget constraints. Bitter -- he is joined by his wife and deaf son as he packs up his stuff but on the way out he hears a commotion coming from the school auditorium. As he enters he finds it full with students from the present but also from his many years of teaching.. and on the stage a mix of students he had taught to play .. then the governor arrives -- another student from his earliest years of teaching.... Well- if you have not seen it I invite you to take a moment to enjoy this heart warming (I cry every time I see it) final scene as he leads the orchestra in playing his OPUS-- but in Truth as it is pointed out-- his students was his opus! This is true for everyone.. we dont all get to be a CEO, play professional football, win the Medal of Honor, be a rock star or movie star... but it is the day to day, year after year -- that counts and how we influence help those around us to grow... our complete body of work from the day we are born to the day our circle is complete... today though I salute the teachers... be proud!
