Coneheads is without a doubt one of the strangest, most silly, endearingly stupid (yet brilliantly droll) films ever made. Canadian comedian, screenwriter and musician Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters, Driving Miss Daisy) transforms his amusing SNL skit into a very uniquely focused performance. An admirable (and fearless) high-wire act that relies on his singular talent for deadpan sincerity. Despite having a description from writing legend Roger Ebert as being a: dismal, dreary and fairly desperate experience; Coneheads is the sort of movie that was destined for cult status, midnight movie screenings with friends as we poke fun at our favorite (or least favorite scenes). The joy of seeing future Seinfeld star Michael Richards in a perfectly cast role that would ultimately cement his future gift for transcendent buffoonery. In the end, youve got to hand it to director Steve Barron for racking up the legendary comedic cameos: David Spade, Sinbad, Chris Farley, Eddie Griffin, Phil Hartman, Jason Alexander and Adam Sandler himself as Carmine Weiner. Hey boys and girls....weve all gotta start our careers somewhere dont we?
