#zenith zenith ejike APC Urges Jonathan To Stop Praising His Administration For Ebola Success Yesterday The All Progressives Congress (APC) insisted that Ebola containment in Nigeria is not the merit of President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration. President Goodluck Jonathan The opposition party urged Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop taking credit for the collective effort, Premium Times reports. In the today’s statement by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party members claim that it is much more important to give due credit to the real heroes of the successful battle, including Dr. Stella Adadevoh and her colleagues at the First Consultant Hospital, officials of the Ministries of Health in Lagos and Rivers States and volunteers fighting the deadly tropical virus jeopardizing their lives. The APC shamed Jonathan’s side over making the Ebola success story a 2015 campaign issue during a PDP rally in Benin. They however praised Nigeria’s Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu for acting professionally and purposefully in connection with the Ebola issue. The measures include painstaking contact- tracing, unrelenting follow-up and creative treatment of infected patients even without access to the experimental drug Zmapp.” READ ALSO: Ebola Defeat: Fashola Reveals Who Deserves Credit Commending the effort of Chukwu, as opposed to the actions of the current administration, the APC said: “Unlike the President and the PDP, we will also like to give credit to the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, for acting out of character with the do-nothing Jonathan Administration. We hope President Jonathan and his party will stop making the Ebola success story in which opposition states were the main actors a fulcrum of their campaign for the 2015 general elections. They cannot and should not take credit for the containment of Ebola in Nigeria.” Characterizing Jonathan as “the most divisive President in Nigeria’s history”, the opposition asked the leader to avoid using another issue, which is Ebola, to divide the citizens along party lines. Meanwhile the death toll from Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), still ravaging West Africa, is gradually approaching 3,500. As the first case was recorded in the US, the Americans sent medical experts to Nigeria to study how the country had managed to quickly stop the virus spread.
