˚₊✩‧₊(⌯͒o̶̶̷̤ ꀾ o̴̶̷̤⌯͒)* ✩‧₊˚ I watched a video today about a man speaking about a moment when he sat in a feminist theory group. In his speech he talks about a white woman looked at her piers and said, All women face the same opression as women and therefore all women have a kind of intuitive solidarity or sisterhood. In response a black woman asked her, When you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, what do you see? The white woman said, I see a woman. The black woman responded, You see, thats the problem for me, because when I wake up in the morning, and when I look in the mirror, I see a black woman. To me race is visible, but to you race is invisible. You dont see it. That is how privilege works. Privilege is invisible to those who have it. Take a minute to consider the privileges that you have in your life, take a minute to consider the oppresion you face every single day, and then take a few minutes to hear these words of wisdom from Maya Angelou.
