The incident was reported from Rainawari area outside the almond alcove (Badam vari) yesterday evening when both were drinking liquor inside a car. Protests today rocked the area against the “immorality”with locals claiming that the boy is a member of ruling National Conference. A local says, at around 9PM, they caught a couple when they were drinking liquor inside car. “We had formed acoordination committee few months ago after we noticed some immoral activities carried in and around the park, yesterday evening we noticed a suspicious vehicle near almond alcove and whenwe went closer to it. We saw both were drunk and managed to catch them,” says the local, Salim Geelani, who works with the Mirwaiz’sHurriyat Conference. The locals claim that the boy was “important member” of ruling National Conference. “When we were taking them to police station the boy claimed to be a leader of ruling National Conference and on checking his identification card it was clearthat he was associated with them.” Salim says: “We saw the stamp and signature of NC General Secretary Sheikh Nazir and later gave both to concerned police station; both ofthem are the residents of Nawpora and are in custody of police.” Locals says the historic park has become “denof moral degradation in valley and hence should be closed immediately”. However, NC spokesperson, Tanvir Sadiq says he doesn’t have any informationregarding theissue and to his prior knowledge they don’t have any boy by the name. “When a guy is caughtdoing anything wrong he will put all these names to save himself but I will confirmthe things,” says Tanvir. Superintendent of Police (SP) North Tahir Saleem confirmedthe arrest and said that a case in this regard has been registered and thevehicle has also been seized
