There are a number of intersecting story lines. Generally they are dealt with sensitively. For example the film reveals the deep emotional wound lying at the heart of the philosophy professors atheism. The film also shows that when a Moslem student is expelled from her home when her father discovers she has Christian beliefs, the father weeps after he does this, clearly feeling regret for his conditioned harshness. In a film with many memorable scenes, I liked this the most: The young freshman who has accepted his professors challenge to debate the existence of God in front of the class manages to goad the professor into admitting he hates God. Then the student turns to the class and says: How can you hate Someone that you claim doesnt exist?! A brilliant rejoinder that all of us should tuck away into our spiritual memory bank. You will laugh, cry, and cheer as a student gives his atheist philosophy professor his comeuppance! But importantly he does so with humility and without arrogance or pride. Another important touch. Whats especially hopeful and inspiring to me is that in the credits it appears that half the writers and producers of this excellent movie are Jewish! I dont know if they are believers, but they did a beautiful job portraying various young characters struggling to find belief in a cynical world. And they also uphold Jesus Holy name too! Praise God Almighty!!!
