بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم The excellence of fasting during the month of Muharram, especially the day of Aashooraa (The 10th day of Muharram) and the days immediately before and after it. Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, reported that the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: The most excellent fast after Ramadaan is Allahs month of al-Muharram ( Abu Dawood, Muslim, Ahmad ) Abu Qaatada Al-Ansaare radiyallahu anhu, reported that the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa salaam, was asked about fasting on the day of Aashoraa whereupon he said, It expiates the sins of the preceeding year. ( Muslim ) Ibn Abaas radiyallahu anhu reported: The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, came to Madinah and found the Jews fasting on the day of Aashooraa. He said to them, What is this fast? They said, A great day. Allaah saved Moses and the tribes of Israeel from their enemies on this day, and therefore, Moses fasted on this day. The prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, We have more of a right to Moses than you, so he fasted on that day, and ordered the Muslims to fast on that day. ( Muslim, Bukharee ) Ahmad bin Hanbal rahimahullah narrated a hadeeth which says fast on the day of Aashoora and oppose the Jews, and fast a day before or after it. ( Awm Al-Mabood ) ***** IT IS PREFERABLE TO FAST TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS ( 9 & 10 or 10 & 11 Muharram )**** ***Some scholars recommend fasting all three days (9,10,and 11 Muharram) *** ****************************************************************************************************** The day of Aashoora ( 10th MUHARRAM ) this year corresponds to the gregorian date which is 14th of November. Insha Allah. If you want to fast Wednesday and Thursday( 9 & 10 Muharram) OR Thursday and Friday( 10 & 11 Muharram) OR Wednesday,Thursday and Friday.( 9,10, 11 Muharram) Allah Subhana wa Taala knows best..... ****************************************************************************************************** بارك الله فيكم أختكم في الله شهيدة Pls note: there was a change of the dates according to the official decision and announcement of the High Judicial Council of Saudi Arabia that the start of the new Islamic year corresponds 5th November 2013.
