قد يواجه المترجم صعوبة بالغة في ترجمة اللفظ المشترك وهو:ورود مفردة معجميَّة واحدة ذات معانٍ مختلفة مرتبطة ببعضها أو لها علاقة ببعضها بعضاً، وهذه الظَّاهرة تمثَّل غموضا وعلى سبيل المثال كلمة ( المدرسىة لها عدة معان ولكن يلعب السياق دورا فاعلا في ازلة الغموض The translator may encounter a great problem in rendering the ploysemy which it occurs when one word in a language has several different meanings . For example the word( school) , is a polysemous form in English which indicate several different meanings. This phenomena may create ambiguity, for example< the lexeme school has several meanings: The context may play a pivotal role in disambiguating and clarifying the meanings: 1. The school is in our street (building)= المدرسة تعني هنا( المبنى) 2. The pupils love their school(institution) = المدرسة تعني هنا( المؤسسة) 3. The school will visit the national museum ( the pupils) = المدرسة تعني هنا( التلاميذ) 4. Studying abroad is a good school for anyone=( opportunity for learning)= المدرسة تعني هنا فرصة للتعلم. 5. School of Medicine( Faculty or college) = المدرسة تعني هنا كلية 6. The Prague School of linguistics( group of scholars)= المدرسة تعني هنا مجموعة علماء
