First phase target of 75 million account holders advanced to January 26, 2015, from August 14 that year. 7) Government to create a National Food Grid to connect deficient areas with surplus producing regions to reduce wastage of fruit and vegetables and ensure stable prices. Government expects it to help contain price rise. 8) Modi prioritising relations with Asian nations as a part of governments Look East policy, visiting Bhutan and Nepal, followed by Japan August 30-September 3. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yias visit to India is seen as a positive development for bettering relations between the two countries. 9) Cancelled August 25 foreign secretary-level talks with Pakistan after Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit invited Kashmiri separatists for talks. Seen as the governments tough side. 10) Gas price rise put on hold for three months, given that this is a sensitive issue and needs further discussion to address many important aspects before taking the final call. 11) In a major pointer to governments firmness against graft in defence procurement, no further deals with Italian conglomerate Finmeccanica, whose Britain-based subsidiary AgustaWestland is enmeshed in the kickbacks relating to the purchase of VVIP helicopters. 12) Ministers asked to adopt austerity measures; among others, asked not to buy new cars. Ministers were also asked to get PMO approval for expenditure above Rs 1 lakh. It has been 100 days since PM NDM (Narendra Modi ) & his Government took over the responsibility of Governing our country. The Government has demonstrated strong intent for reform, pro-activeness to deliver on poll promises like setting up a special investigation team on black money; getting Parliaments approval for a National Judicial Commission, that were promised in the BJPs manifesto, & Revitalized the standards of leadership, working aggressively to undo the nightmare of the past. We must all admit that the country facing serious & challenging times - self created by many years of profligacy & poor governance. The tasks, therefore, for this Government are neither easy nor simple. The problems can only be tackled by decisive governance action & management of the economy. Having inherited an economy that has been left very weak & vulnerable with 12 quarters of successive GDP declines & 24 quarters of inflation growth; the Government’s maiden budget in July has ensured a good first step in the difficult process of rebuilding the economy. PM Modi has created a systemic change & structural reorientation of the government, ensuring greater transparency & accountability. By scrapping the Planning Commission, abolishing over 21 GOMs (Group of Ministers) & nine EGOMs, creating a process of appraising performances of those in his Government & ensuring a culture of hard work and punctuality in government offices, he has revitalized Government. The recognition of skill development, sanitation, labour reforms, financial inclusion & women’s safety amongst others bodes well for our country’s future. By proposing a hike in the FDI cap in insurance to 49 percent in Budget, building 100 smart cities and delivering a boost to manufacturing via the ‘Make in India’ slogan during his IndependenceDay speech, PM Modi has exhibited a steadfast commitment to investments & growth. These are important first steps towards Transformindia! Transforming our economy into an Investment-based economy will be real hard work which will require formulating good, credible, fair, long-term policies which I am sure PM Modi & his Government will deliver to the nation.
