Amandeep Singh, president of NGO Swatantra Awaz Welfare Organisation, said he was helping a domestic violence victim, Babita, who is sister-in-law of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) prisons, in pursuing a case in the court for the past three months. He alleged that the police under the pressure of the DSP had been forcing him to not pursue the case. Besides, Babita’s inlaws had filed a fake complaint against him at Sarabha Nagar police station, following which sub-inspector (SI) Swarn Singh summoned him to join investigation.But when he reached the police station on Thursday, the victim’s in-laws started beating him up in the presence of cops. He alleged that instead of taking action against Babita’s in-laws, the police officials forced him to leave the office. Thereafter he made a complaint to the Police Control Room, but no cop reached the spot. Eventually, he filed a complaint at helpline number 181. Singh alleged that Babita’s in-laws also hurt his religious sentiments as they pulled at his beard. When contacted, SI Swarn claimed that both parties entered into a heated argument following which he asked them to leave the station, adding that he was not aware of what transpired between them outside the police station.
