Ọbàtálá Festival - New Orleans, LA, U.S.A. | 2014 Annual Homage to Òrìṣà Ọbàtálá: Òrìṣà Ọbàtálá also known as Òrìṣà-Ńlá among other praise names ...is the supreme divinity of Yorùbáland. As his name implies, he is the great or arch-divinity. It is sometimes said that he is the father of all Òrìṣà of Yorùbáland and that it was he who gave each of them the name Òrìṣà, thus naming them after himself...According to our oral tradition Òrìṣà-Ńlá is very ancient...He is the deputy of Olódùmarè (God) on Earth in his creative and executive functions...He was invested with Odù (or àṣẹ which is the ability to make things happen) by Olódùmarè. He represents the idea of ritual and ethical purity, and therefore the demand of and sanctions of high morality. E. Bolaji Idowu, Olódùmarè God in Yorùbá Belief At Ọbàtálás shrine there is always a pot (awe orisha) which contains water and sacred objects (irin orisha). The water is kept clean and pure (omi otun). This water must be fetched very early in the morning by the priest of Ọbàtálá, who does so without talk either in going, or in coming back to the shrine (omi odi). the bell or ajija must ring to clear the road of all evil he might encounter on the way. He speaks the language of all humans and animals, patron Saint of all “irregularly formed” beings. According to Yorùbá Afrikan Traditional Spirituality Òrìsà Ọbàtálá created all human beings (the molder of human heads). Òrìsà Ọbàtálá’s spiritual essence is of the highest moral character and ethics. He is the Òrìsà of mystic vision, creativity and life force command. He wears only white, embodies Divine patience and above all, Peace. There is not enough room here to expound further upon the importance of appealing to this Angelic Divinity for Heavenly and Earthly blessings of abundance and healing in our personal lives, in our families, communities…in our World, Earth (Ayé).
