—The Vampire Diaries Season 5: Why Caroline Should Be With Stefan In The Vampire Diaries’ Season 4 finale, Lexi told Stefan (Paul Wesley) that though Elena was “the One,” that there can be many “One”s — especially for vampires. There’s always been an intimate connection between BFFs Stefan and Caroline (Candice Accola). Could that develop into something romantic in Season 5? Could Caroline be one of Stefan’s “the One”s? The best relationships can start with friendship Stelena were never really friends — and it worked for them — but, sometimes, the best relationships start with friendship (amirite, Delena?). We think this might be the case with Caroline and Stefan, whose friendship has been one of our favorite character developments of the entire series. While Caroline and Stefan’s respective relationships with Tyler and Elena have been roller coasters of emotion, they have been one another’s friendship constants, confiding and wanting the absolute best for their BFF. Now that things are changing for these two, we think their feelings for one another could develop into something more. And we think it could be kind of beautiful. Stefan needs someone right now, and Caroline is good at taking care of people We’re really worried about Stefan. He’s been trapped underwater in a continuous cycle of drowning, dying, and coming back to life. And, as if that wasn’t enough, he has also been experiencing some pretty painful hallucinations to boot. When someone finally does fish him out of that quarry, he’s really going to need someone to be there for him, and Caroline might just be the best candidate considering Stefan’s brother and ex-girlfriend are currently madly in love. Not only that, but Caroline is good at taking care of people (she’s the perfect combination of loving and ass-kicking). When Tyler was going through his painful transition into a werewolf, Caroline wouldn’t abandon him in it (and look where that led romantically…) Stefan will also be dealing with a painful transition, reacclimation back into “normal” life after a severely traumatic experience. Caroline and Stefan have a beautiful history of helping one another through these tough times — after all, it was Stefan who taught Caroline how to be a good vampire. Now, it’s Caroline’s turn. They’re both changing Come Season 5, Caroline is still very much with Tyler, but - now that she’s at college - we’ve been getting the spoiler-fueled feeling that they might not make the jump from high school sweethearts to successful college couple. College is a time of intense change in a person, and people who were close in high school, often grow apart. We think Caroline is becoming a new person, and so is Stefan. How could he not be changed by his summer trapped in an underwater box? Caroline and Stefan might not be romantic now, but as they change, so will their relationships with the people in their lives.
