觀世音菩薩普門品講記（二十七） – 傳喜法師講述 A discourse on the Universal Door Chapter of Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva（27） – By Master Chuan Xi In this Universal Door Chapter, Buddha said if all the myriads of living beings, who are tortured by misery, heard of Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva and invoke his holy name wholeheartedly, Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva would immediately respond to the prayers and get them free (from suffering).In the Heart Sutra, it is said that (Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva) clearly see that the five skandhas are empty and overcome all sufferings, via which Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva saves and set free all beings. The reason why we need to chant the Sutra-opening anthem is because the sutra is not only supreme, obscure and wonderful, but also difficult to meet and see over millions of kalpa. Now since we are able to see, hear and hold onto it, we need to pray for being able to understand the true meaning of the Buddhas word. However, this true meaning requires a master to interpret and make it clear, and thats why we are called the master of Dharma. If it were not taught by a master, even a wise man cannot understand. By only interpreting the words of the sutra would not allow you to understand the true meaning of the Buddhas word. 佛在《普門品》裡教我們：「若有無量百千萬億眾生受諸苦惱， 聞是觀世音菩薩一心稱名， 觀世音菩薩即時觀其音聲，皆得解脫。」 在《心經》裡教我們：「照見五蘊皆空， 度一切苦厄。」用觀世音菩薩的這種因緣來度一切眾生。 我們每次打開經典都要念「開經偈」，因為這個經不僅「無上甚深微妙法」，而且是「百千萬劫難遭遇」， 好不容易「我今見聞得受持」了， 所以我要祁請「願解如來真實義」。這個「如來真實義」是要靠傳法者來開顯的，所以我們被稱為法師。如果不傳不講的話，你縱使有智也難解。 有些人依文解義，按文字的字面去解經的話， 是不能了達諸佛甚深的本義的。
