Keeping ourselves busy every day all day, rushing from place to place, not having any time for ourselves or for others. Having more than 1,000 friends on Facebook and yet, not having a single friend to accompany you in times of need. How many of us feel trapped in busy Singapore, and we always have to travel to neighbouring countries just to escape from our hectic schedules and have a few days of holiday to relax? 我站在屋顶上 这蓝天我为你画上 梵高的天堂 调色盘五光十色 自由的奔放 你眼中闪烁的泪光 是温柔的倔强 This song, 调色盘, was written by one of Chi Shengs friends and students, Wenhui, with lyrics by the talented Yanxin. It talks about how we can be inspired by our loved ones, and gives us something to look forward to. That life can be colourful and beautiful, if we can only find a reason that inspires us and lets us see the beauty in the world. The world has not changed; it is still the same world, and yet, the depiction of the world transforms from being bleak and dark, into being colourful and sparkling. To me, it depicts a change in perception. A change in mindset. It also depicts how love can transform your life from something dull and lifeless, into something inspiring and touching. So, I hope that this song can give everyone some inspiration about how we should be living our lives. Should we be complaining about our busy schedules and our hectic lifestyles? About the constant traffic jams on the expressways and the morning squeeze on the mrt trains? Or should we be thinking instead about the blessings in our lives? Our loved ones and our dearest friends. The loves of our life. Once we are able to make this shift in mindset, you will find that life becomes illuminated and colourful.
