⭐️Beautiful souls! Thank you for sharing your stories, you practice, your choices with us! This challenge has made my yoga practice more conscious, and more public - I like to be more of a private person. But sharing our yoga ultimately brings us closer to others and our true nature, more open, more brave.. So thank you for playing our #shiftyourpractice challenge, and also making us host responsible and listening to whatever yoga we have to share! One of the more challenging poses, but with one of the most exotic names! Bird of Paradise or Svarga Dvidasana on day 16. This pose can be very elegant or get very awkward :) Three things have to be very open - shoulders, hips and hamstrings. First two for the bind, and third for both the standing leg and extending the top leg. So warm up with a few asanas! My version is coming from malasana, garland or yogi squat. Traditionally this pose is done with feet together but for binding wide is better. My advice - even if you can grab your wrist, loosen your bind so you have more space and are safe with your shoulder! Move slow and with control. Straighten your legs to start, exploring your hammies, and transfer your weight into your standing leg. Engage your quads, lift the knee cap up, and tighten the core. Slowly lift your other leg until you can straighten the standing leg, and get your torso upright. Those are the foundations, and what really matters. Extending the other bound leg is just a cherry on top, but most jump into it before they can balance on one leg. So work in steps. Find your bind. Get light on your toes, slowly lift your leg with time. You can keep your knee bent for as long as you need to gain strength and balance. And now play and rock this!
