We love him, because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 It’s easy to see God as love when everything is going well in your life, but when you need to see God as love the most is when you are face to face with your fears. His love gives you courage. When you have missed the mark again, His love forgives and helps you get back on your feet. When you have forgotten who you are, His love is there to remind you. We love Him, because He first loved us. It doesn’t say we love Him because He gives us everything we want. We love Him, because He first loved, first initiated, and made the first move in reconciling us back to Himself. The “love” that God speaks of in this verse means love in a social or moral sense. It is love that only comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ. When we receive it continually, it flows through us and into the lives of others. Draw close to Love. Even when your thoughts and emotions are far from loving, keep on seeing God’s love, letting it be perfected in you.
