We call the experience of emotional openness combined with physical contact bonding. This is an important condition for the development of a safe attachment in young children. If this basic need is not met, it will result in a fear of emotional and physical closeness, which in turn leads to relationship problems, depression, and other destructive attitudes and behaviors. Bonding Psychotherapy is an intensive form of group therapy. It can restore the emotional damage that occurs in the absence of a secure attachment during early childhood. Through re-living traumatic experiences of the past in the safe environment of a supporting group, a corrective emotional experience can take place. Recent scientific research has proven that this technique produces lasting, positive results. This intensive and effective form of group psychotherapy was developed by psychiatrist Daniel Casriel. Casriel, who was trained as a psychoanalyst, developed Bonding in the Seventies. The method spread from the U.S.A to Sweden, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, France, Switzerland and Argentina.
