--------GENDER BENDER------ FOOD FOR THOUGHT--- ----- -- Most of us shun TV serials of Saas Bahu saga as nothing more than TRASH. But at times we do come across some aspects of the story which sets us thinking , Is every thing hunky dory in the society?. --- --The serial Diya Aur Baati Hum on STAR PLUS. One girl , just out of school, gets married in an average Indian family.She has a dream to become an IPS Officer. Her husband helps her and encourages her to complete her studies, she gets selected for IPS , completes her training and becomes an IPS Officer. So far so good -- In the Academy , their Training Officer is a lady ( SSP/DIG Rank). She is constantly addressed as YES SIR by all cadets , male and female. I dont know why she could not be referred to as YES MAAM.After all there is nothing derogatory in addressing a lady as YES MAAM .And the people addressing her are not Other Ranks. They are cadets , going to be Officers. --- -- IPS started getting lady officers only in late sixties, the first one being Mrs Kiran Bedi. Armed Forces have been getting lady officers since the days of Florence Nightingale ( Nursing Officers) and , also Medical Officers since early fifties. Now they have lady officers in all Arms and Services since early nineties .But lady officers are never addressed as YES SIR. --- ---FOOD for THOUGHT.
