------ Forwarded Message "WOULD I WANT TO BE IN THE TRENCHES WITH THAT MAN?" 16 HOURS AGO It was under Kevin Rudd’s instruction that Peter Garrett implemented the ill-conceived pink batts scheme. When Garrett tried to explain an impending disaster, Rudd gave him short shrift and told him to, “Just get on with it”. Pickering Post has been told by a former staffer that Garrett’s entire Office was dismayed at the intransigence of Rudd. “There was a brick wall, we were getting disturbing reports daily and we couldn’t get him to listen”, she said. Garrett had felt exposed and wrote to Rudd on four separate occasions without response. He had also forwarded to Rudd copies of emails from personnel within the industry expressing grave concerns. These entreaties were ignored. There were other letters, from different quarters, that landed directly on Rudd’s desk warning of a looming disaster. They were also ignored. Garrett had even brought the matter to Rudd’s attention in the Cabinet room, and again it was poo-hooed. If Rudd had any business experience he would have known that you simply can’t throw almost three billion dollars at a thought bubble and expect it not to burst. And burst it did! After 220 houses caught fire, and four innocent kids died, it was found that of the 1.2 million insulation installations completed, over one third were dangerously flawed. Kevin Rudd suddenly realised the gravity of the situation. A scapegoat needed to be found. Kevin naturally chose Peter and shamelessly sacked him in an attempt to lay the blame squarely at his feet. It is not until now that a Coroner’s damning indictment of the Rudd method of governing has emerged do we see a cornered Kev deciding an apology to the families of those killed is in order. It was a cowardly apology, “As the Prime Minister I apologise on behalf of the Government”, weasled Rudd. But Rudd had known exactly who was responsible for years and no apology was forthcoming until a Coroner pointed an accusatory finger directly at him. Peter Garrett had not sought to ensnare Rudd in the deadly fiasco. Instead, he wore the brunt of bad publicity himself. Unlike Rudd, Garrett tried to limit the damage done to the Party. Of course Garrett is just one of more than a dozen who now refuse to serve under the despicable Rudd and they have departed the Parliament in disgust. Rudd naturally refuses to disclose the damning correspondence. Garrett could but won’t. Perhaps Garrett has the class that Rudd lacks. Re-installing a person of the calibre of Kevin Rudd is a high price to pay for a few marginal seats. Perhaps the mother of a dead son expressed the nation’s thoughts best when she said of Rudd, “I just wish he would disappear”.
