---- Punya Tithi ---- Bimal Roy ---- What a comic genius Kishore Kumar was ! Here is one of the earliest such comedy songs. It is from “Parivaar” (1956) and it is truly a laugh riot. The scene prior to the song is hilarious. People have gathered to watch a cultural programme in a hall. The announcer announces-” Friends ! You will be pleased to know that a gala cultural programme has been arranged for you. In this programme, world renowned sarod player Mr Ali Akbar Khan, great singer Mr Pankaj Malik, guitar exponent Mr Vilayat Khan , composer of melodious songs Mr Sachin Dev Burman..all these dilgnitaries could not be invited despite there being every intention to invite them.” As the members of the audience begin to boo, the announcer hastily adds- “There is no reason to be disappointed though. We have for you a person who will entral you”. The skeptical audience is not convinced. “Who is he ? ” They enquire. “See for yourself”-the announcer announcer with a flourish and the curtain is opened. “where is that person. Did you forget to invite him too ?” The audience jeer. A voice comes out from somewhere- “here I am”. The annoucer looks around, and runs towards a kuaan (well) on the stage and pulls out a gentleman from the well. When the person turns around, and the public recognise him, the should gleefully- It is Kishore Kumar !” And Kishore Kumar then goes on to enthral the public with a superb comedy song, where he advise people not to marry because ther are far too many hurdles and hardships for those who pursue marriage. Jump in the well but do not get married, that is his advice. This hilarious song has been penned by Shailendra and it is composed by Salil Chowdhury. What a gem of a song it is ! Simply superb !
