---Swayamsevak as a Social Entrepreneur --- Swayamsevak as a Social Entrepreneur: Most human beings, if not everybody, have an innate urge to create something of their own. This ‘something’ is their brain child and the person who conceives it, toils hard to convert this brain child into reality. Such an urge is called entrepreneurship. In fact, this ‘something’ serves as one of the most powerful self-actualization mechanism for the entrepreneur. An entrepreneur creates something that is useful to the society and in the process experiences self-realization. Swayamsevak also has the privilege of going through this unique experience. This journey needs leadership quality. Leader vs. Manager: Managers require money to accomplish something; leaders generate the own money required for their mission. Managers ask for resources; leaders generate the resources required for their task. Managers require approvals from others; leaders make their own decisions and take calculated risks. Managers are administrative in nature; leaders are inspirational in nature. Leaders lead by example and set their own benchmarks; managers look for examples outside themselves. Managers fear ridicule, criticism and opposition; leaders overcome them to achieve their goal. Leaders have ability to persist for a long time and give themselves up for the cause. All these leadership qualities are developed in a sanga karyakarta without even one being aware of it. The tool used to develop these qualities is the nitya shaka. These qualities are look in to an entrepreneur. EQ (Emotional Quotient) and SQ (Spiritual Quotient): High EQ and SQ are essential for a successful leader. Both are developed in ample measure in a sangh karyakarta through the shaka/Milan. EQ is developed through continuous contact with other swayamsevaks and the society, through the various games inside the shaka and the various activities outside the shaka. SQ is developed through inculcation of single minded devotion to our motherland. Unless a swayamsevak goes through this experience of social entrepreneurship, he is likely to find the shaka boring and eventually drop out in spite of wanting to do something for the cause of hindu sanghatan. The responsibility to take the swayamsevak through this experience lies with Senior Karyakartas. Few examples of social entrepreneurship by swayamsevaks: • Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram (VKA) reaches out to lakhs of vanavasis and provides them free education, healthcare, integration with the rest of the society and most importantly the selfless love and lifetimes of effort dedicated for their upliftment. The aim of VKA is to reach out to the 8 crore vanavasis in our country. • Ekal Vidyalay: When the entire world is busy making a fast buck out of education, one swayamsevak believed that quality education should not just be available for the rich, but also the poorest of the poor. The rich kids have plenty of schools to go to, but what will the poor in the remote villages do? Thus began the ekal vidyalay experiment, which met with a lot of scepticism in its initial days. Through the toil of thousands of teachers who go into remote villages (sometimes walk for miles into the forests to reach these villages), this experiment has now become a mass movement in rural education. It runs tens of thousands of schools all across our country and imparts education to children who would otherwise remain uneducated. • Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) – Pa Pu Dr ji started Sangh in 1925 with just a handful of boys. What started as a seemingly insignificant activity in Nagpur, has now turned into the world’s largest voluntary organization and the only credible force that promises to preserve and grow this wonderful culture. Swayamsevaks have made an impact in almost every sphere.
