- A deal to end the hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas is over. Israel has resumed pounding the Gaza Strip, already devastated in a month-long war, soon after the ceasefire that was in effect from Tuesday, ended at 5 GMT. - The Palestinians resistance is also reported to have started rocket attacks on Israel. Over two dozen rockets have been fired on Israeli cities including Ashkelon, Eshkol and Kivosim. Israeli officials say most rockets have landed in open areas and there have been some interceptions. - The renewal of fighting follows the failure of truce talks in Egypt. Hamas says the Israelis have not accepted demands by the Palestinians, the most important of which has been the removal of the blockade of Gaza. - Israeli tanks have now started to re-deploy to their previous positions during the Gaza war. Reports say thousands of people are now fleeing their homes from eastern Gaza in fear of the start of a new conflict that has already taken the lives of about 1900 people.
