- Im confused. Now, dont get me wrong... I can pass the background check and get my finger prints taken again, as I already went through all of that when I worked with children for over five years. I can also prove that I have, and can hold, a higher level position in the corporate world and have more than enough family members, friends, and co-workers willing to be character references. And, yes... I can even prove that I can provide medical coverage and extensive educational resources to a child with disabilities. All of that is not an issue. What I am confused about is why, when going through an adoption for a child, you have to go through all of these processes when there are thousands of people out there who are allowed to procreate (as much as they want) and take their children home without proving that they are fit enough to provide for them. Meanwhile, people such as myself who have full-time jobs which pay out for most of their benefits through the government, and can/want to provide a child with a loving, supportive, and healthy home/family, have to jump all of these hurdles to prove we are capable of raising children we are already funding. Let me be clear on this. I will do whatever it takes to adopt, as I believe that every child deserves a loving home and family. However, I feel that if I have to prove I am a stable, caring, and capable enough person to adopt a child... others should have to prove that they are stable, caring, and capable enough to keep theirs without support from me. Only seems fair, right?! Not a sermon, just a thought.
