- The 40 challenge - It’s been already 1 year since...- https://youtube/watch?v=G1D9cr5O11Y Just realized that 1 year ago, I completed the 40 press challenge.... A few thoughts about this weird and somewhat ridiculous (mid life crisis-ish) challenge I put myself into celebrating my 40th BD, and before leaving of the show (Le Reve) after 7 years of performance. A few thoughts: - I can’t believe I did this thing...! OK The video shows that I did. 10 Stalder presses, 10 HSPU, 10 pike presses and and 10 straddle presses in a little more than 3 minutes on my hands to complete the set. DONE! -I don’t think that I’ll ever try this again. I mean, I know I won’t try this again... -Why did I do it? It wasn’t done so in order to create a certain standard for my training, but more so to see if I could just do it... -What did I learn? Well, mainly that we can usually do more than we think we can do. But also that it’s still essential to prepare well and intelligently for such a feat. It took me 3 months of training to slowly increase my capacity, improve mobility, and build my confidence in my ability to complete it. -Why challenges? Because we are meant to challenge ourselves! It goes beyond handstand of course, but since this is what I do, I would say that any handstand practitioner should always have a set of short term and long term challenges. It helps to keep us moving forward, improving our skills, learning new ones, increasing capacity, mobility etc.... -What’s next? a few weeks ago I completed my 10 minute HS challenges (ahead of time), and almost doubled my best time until then. That was a clear example of the sheer power of a decision. A YES WE CAN moment :-)... Of course I was building my capacity for quite a while and practicing different variations of endurance sets etc, but a decision to just go for it was essential in this case! Also, re-watching this video and challenge, made me realize how difficult it was, especially during the last reps in which I clearly pushed myself to my limits. Perhaps the 40 challenge was beneficial after all... So, enjoy the process, challenge yourselves and move to the next level, and then a little further! Yuval
