09-11-2014 - Israeli forces raid Jerusalem hospital, detain Palestinian in ER. JERUSALEM -- Israeli forces raided a hospital in East Jerusalem late Saturday and detained a young Palestinian man, witnesses told Maan. Locals said Israeli forces searched the outer square of the al-Maqasid hospital in the al-Tur neighborhood before storming the hospitals emergency room and detaining a young man who was escorting an elderly woman. The officers beat the young man brutally before taking him into custody, the sources told Maan. The young Palestinians name was not immediately made available. The Palestinian news site Safa reported that Israeli forces claimed the man had hurled a Molotov cocktail at them and fled to the hospital. The hospital administration denounced the Israeli raid which they described as a barbarian attack that violated the sanctity of the hospital. Witnesses said the raid came during clashes in the al-Tur neighborhood, during which Israeli forces fired tear gas and stun grenades at Palestinian youths, who threw stones at the officers. An Israeli police spokesman did not answer calls seeking comment. Officials at the hospital said that over the past two days, Israeli troops have showered the hospital campus with tear gas and stun grenades, and sprayed putrid-smelling skunk liquid at it during clashes. Separately, Israeli troops detained 14-year-old Omar Abu al-Hawa from the al-Tur neighborhood overnight, in addition to Hamza al-Julani and his brother Bilal from Silwan, locals said. Tensions have been high in Jerusalem over the past several weeks as Israeli restrictions on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and police killings of Palestinian attack suspects have led to frequent clashes.
