#1,068: While this situation does not directly relate to the Rutgers community, I want to share a thought on the recent events in Mexico regarding the disappearance of 43 college students. To put it in perspective, as college students, I think were the only group of people that can understand this situation better than anyone. I think we can all agree that if some of our schoolmates were to suddenly disappear or be kidnapped and be believed to be murdered, that we would all be distraught and angry. If it is discovered that the state government and police were directly involved in their disappearance and killings then the situation would be even more delicate as it currently is in Mexico. Im writing this because my family is not so far from where all of these events are currently happening and its difficult to be calm here at Rutgers knowing that their safety is not entirely guaranteed. But above all else, I believe something very important will happen very soon in Mexico that might change our understanding of the world. People are getting tired of all the corruption and farce and this could very well lead to a change...whether that could be interpreted as a Revolution or not is up to the observer. Setting aside all of our differences, all of our own political beliefs, and individual perceptions on diplomatic affairs and why this has any relation to us, I ask all of you to set a thought aside for these students who could be dead or alive (while highly unlikely), their parents, the students who are taking to the streets in protest all over the country, and our own friends and families who we couldnt imagine losing.
