Its noteworthy that Elkanah, the father of Samuel, understood this name of GOD better than the 2 sons of Eli, who were very wicked priests. The name occurs only once in the NT, speaking of oppressed laborers crying 2 the Lord of sabaoth (*Jas. 5:4). A similar name, GOD of hosts, occurs 9xs, the 1st is *Ps. 80:7. The combined name LORD GOD of hosts is used about 25xs, 1st in *II Sam. 5:10.
