1/23/15 Specks in the Cove Friday, we hit the Elizabeth River - TopicsExpress

1/23/15 Specks in the Cove Friday, we hit the Elizabeth River for some speckled trout action with my buddy Zack Hoffman (Salt Treated Sport Fishing). There were never more than six boats in the cove at a time, maybe folks were deterred by the impending rain. For most of the day we watched the boat near us release a fish here and there. We were using live bait on floats. We relocated a few times. Oh well, we were enjoying a pleasant, although very chilly, day on the water. I heard all day about how Harry was so prepared for this cold day, justifying his beard of course (eye roll). It seemed much warmer when the first line went off, and Harry was the proud owner of his first speckled trout. Suddenly, it was a flurry of activity for the rest of the afternoon. Harry fought all his fish like a champ. Well make an angler of him, yet! The trout were nice-sized, ranging from 18 to 25-inches. We packed it in around 2:30 when the rain started. We took a few with us to try on my new smoker. (If anyone has a good recipe, please share!) See you on the water!
