1.7 Million Pupils benefit from School Feeding programme As part of NDC 2012 manifesto to progressively expand coverage of the school Feeding Programme to all public basic schools in rural and needy communities, p17 • About 1.7 million school pupils across the country are now benefiting from the Ghana School Feeding Programme. • The Deputy National Coordinator Mrs. Victoria Kuma-Mintah, disclosed during a sensitization workshop on the Impact and Evaluation Project in Tamale.. • The programme commenced in 2005 on pilot basis, to provide meals daily, on school days, to 1,835 pupils in Kindergarten and primary schools in 10 basic schools selected in each region. • It now covers 1.7 million pupils in 216 districts. • Government has given its assurance to continue to improve the programme to enable it realized its intended objectives of increasing school enrollment, attendance and retention. • The programme would also boost domestic food production.
