1 Chronicles 27:32-34 HCSB David’s uncle Jonathan was a counselor; he was a man of understanding and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hachmoni attended the king’s sons. Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend. After Ahithophel came Jehoiada son of Benaiah, then Abiathar. Joab was the commander of the king’s army. Interesting how David had all these different officers, even counselors, even a commander of the army, but he had only one friend. What would have been different if he had more friends? What would have changed if he had none? The fact that David had a friend should challenge those pastors and leaders who avoid real, deep friendship and so isolate themselves.
