1 Corinthians 9:16 “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing - TopicsExpress

1 Corinthians 9:16 “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!” Lately Ive been reflecting upon the call of God on my life to join the ministry as pastor. I recall how I fought that call, suggesting to God, “There’s someone better fitted than I Lord.” But the compulsion or was it a command, could not be shaken. So two years later, I submitted and started the educational requirements to become a pastor. Five years later, it was official with my ordination. After doing more study of the Scriptures, I found that I’m not alone in “resisting” God’s call. Moses fought his call strenuously but lost to the conviction of the Holy Spirit within him. The same may be said of many others in the Bible and since Bible times. I recall my pastoral mentor in those early days telling me; “If you can do anything else do it.” It took me a long time to understand what that meant, as I wrestled with God’s calling on my life. But God doesnt just call some to preach and leave the others behind. Everyone who has been born of God is gifted by God for ministry. Simply said, everyone who have been born again at the cross of Calvary, is called to ministry. Paul said it best in I Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. There is no escape, one either wrestles with God becoming more agitated in his/her soul, estranged from the peace of God. Or one finds Peace and Rest in the arms of God, even on the fronts lines of His calling.
