1 Timothy 4 1 ¶ But the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, cleaving to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons, 2 in lying speakers in hypocrisy, being seared in their own conscience, 3 forbidding to marry, saying to abstain from foods, which God created for partaking with thanksgiving by the believers and those knowing the truth. 4 Because every creature of God is good, and nothing to be thrust away, but having been received with thanksgiving; 5 for through Gods Word and supplication it is sanctified. 6 ¶ Having suggested these things to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, having been nourished by the Words of faith, and by the good doctrine which you have followed. 7 But refuse the profane and old-womanish tales. And exercise yourself to godliness. 8 For bodily exercise is profitable to a little, but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the present life now, and of that coming. 9 Faithful is the Word and worthy of all acceptance; 10 for to this we also labor and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Savior of all men, especially of believers. 11 Enjoin and teach these things. 12 Let no one despise your youth, but become an example of the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I come, attend to reading, to exhortation to the doctrine. 14 Do not be neglectful of the gift in you, which was given to you through prophecy, with laying on of the hands of the elderhood. 15 Give care to these things; be in these things in order that your progress may be plain in all. 16 Give attention to yourself and to the doctrine; continue in them, for doing this, you will both deliver yourself and those hearing you. [Top] 1 Timothy 5 1 ¶ Do not sharply rebuke an elder, but exhort as a father; and younger ones as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, younger ones as sisters, in all purity. 3 ¶ Honor widows, the ones being true widows. 4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to be godly to their own house and to make a return payment to their forebears, for this is good and pleasing before God. 5 But honor the one being the true widow, even having been left alone, who has set her hope on God and continues in petitions and prayers night and day. 6 But the oneliving wantonly has died while living. 7 And enjoin these things that they may be blameless. 8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 9 Let a widow be enrolled having become not less than sixty years, the wife of one man, 10 being witnessed by good works, if she brought up children, if she hosted strangers, if she washed the feet of the saints, if she relieved afflicted ones, if she followed after every good work. 11 But refuse younger widows; for whenever they grow lustful against Christ, they desire to marry, 12 having guilt because they set aside the first faith; 13 and with it all, they also learn to be idle, going around the houses, and not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, speaking the things not proper. 14 Therefore, I desire the young women to marry, to bear children, to rule the house, giving no occasion to the adversary on account of reproach. 15 For some already have turned aside behind Satan. 16 If any believing man or believing woman has widows, let them relieve them, and do not burden the assembly, that it may relieve those being true widows. 17 ¶ Let the elders who take the lead well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those laboring in Word and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, You shall not muzzle an ox treading out grain, and, the laborer is worthy of his pay. Deut. 25:4 19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder unless on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Deut. 19:15 20 The ones sinning before all, rebuke, that the rest also may have fear. 21 I solemnly witness before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that you should guard these things without prejudice, doing nothing by way of partiality. 22 Lay hands quickly on no one, nor share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. 23 No longer drink water, but use a little wine on account of your stomach and your frequent infirmities. 24 The sins of some men are plain before, going before to judgment, but indeed some follow after. 25 Likewise, also the good works are plain beforehand, and those otherwise cannot be hidden. [Top] 1 Timothy 6 1 ¶ Let as many as are slaves under a yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name and teaching of God may not be blasphemed. 2 And those having believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brothers, but rather let them serve as slaves, because they are believing and beloved ones, those receiving of the good service in return. Teach and exhort these things. 3 If anyone teaches differently, and does not consent to sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching according to godliness, 4 he has been puffed up, understanding nothing, but is sick concerning doubts and arguments, out of which comes envy, strife, evil-speakings, evil suspicions, 5 meddling, of men whose mind has been corrupted and deprived of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness. Withdraw from such persons. 6 ¶ But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we have brought nothing into the world, and it is plain that neither can we carry anything out. 8 But having food and clothing, we will be satisfied with these. 9 But those purposing to be rich fall into temptation, and a snare, and many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all evils, by means of which some having lusted after it were seduced from the faith, and they themselves pierced through by many pains. 11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and confessed the good confession before many witnesses. 13 ¶ I charge you before God, He making all things alive, and Christ Jesus, the One witnessing the good confession to Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the commandment spotless, blameless, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 who in His own time will reveal the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 the only One having immortality, living in light that cannot be approached, whom no one of men saw, nor can see; to whom be honor and everlasting might. Amen. 17 Charge the rich in the present age not to be high-minded, nor to set hope on the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, the One offering to us richly all things for enjoyment; 18 to do good, to be rich in good works, to be ready to share, generous, 19 treasuring away for themselves a good foundation for the coming age, that they may lay hold on everlasting life. 20 O Timothy, guard the Deposit, having turned away from the profane empty babblings and opposing theories of the falsely named knowledge, 21 which some asserting have missed the mark concerning the faith.
