1 Timothy 6 : 3-7 (Holman Christian Standard)3 If anyone teaches other doctrine and does not agree with the sound teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching that promotes godliness, 4 he is conceited, understanding nothing, but having a sick interest in disputes and arguments over words. From these come envy, quarreling, slanders, evil suspicions, 5 and constant disagreement among men whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain. 6 But godliness with contentment is a great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out. ❤ ☆♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸ ❤ ¸¸.♪♫•*¨*•♫♪ ☆ ❤ ❤ ☆♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸ I think it very interesting here that he ties together false teaching with greed & not being satisfied with what you have, just as Hebrews 13: 5 ties the fact that God will never leave nor forsake us to greed & being content. I also find it interesting that he says false teachers are conceited, do not understand anything & have a sick interest in disputes & arguments.( NIV says ~ unhealthy interest in controversies & quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions &. The Revised Standard says ~ morbid craving for controversy & for disputes about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions,) I guess that explains why it is so hard to convince someone of the error when they have be lead astray. Conceit is pride & arrogance, which the Bible compares to idolatry.( 1 Sam 15: 23) & this verse seems to say they actually like to quarrel and argue... which I have often suspected to be true. I would have to admit describing that as sick and unhealthy and morbid is pretty accurate or spot on as the Regency speak would say. I have read this before many times... but never really meditated on it before. It does explain why you can talk and explain and quote scripture and get no where and why they can quote the same scripture back at you claiming it does not mean what it plainly says. I am not a fan of people who start spouting the Greek meaning of the words. If God wants everyone to be saved ( and He does) it stands to reason He made it plain enough for people who are not Greek scholars to understand. A conceited person is too full of themselves & you cannot tell them anything because they have no room left for anything else. They are a legend in their own mind. ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭ ♮ ♯ ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬ ♭ ♮
