When a person’s individuality isn’t developed because of adverse environmental conditions, because they don’t have a center in themselves, they relate to others symbiotically in sadomasochistic ways. They escape from feelings of insignificance and powerlessness either by trying to control others sadistically or allowing themselves to be controlled masochistically. Symbiotic relationships are all about power, Fromm said. The masochist submits to authority to avoid feeling alone and anxious. He allows the other to make decisions for him, to direct, guide, and protect him. The sadist compensates for her feelings of impotence by exerting power over others. In achieving complete control over another person and causing her pain, the sadist transforms impotence into omnipotence What the masochist and sadistic person lack, Fromm maintained, is integrity. The self-assertive person, Fromm believed, is more likely to get what he wants and so he is less likely to seek sadistic control. The shy or inhibited person or someone with compulsive obsessional tendencies isn’t. It’s growing up in authoritarian atmospheres where self-assertive behavior is labeled disobedience or a sin, Fromm tells us, that causes a weakening of self-assertivenessFeelings of inferiority and powerlessness come from a lack in the person’s life of being able to act spontaneously and to genuinely express what he feels and thinks, Fromm emphasized. For Fromm the cultivation of a person’s uniqueness was the highest achievement of human culture. Both the masochist and the sadistic person lack this ability to stand alone. Both use symbiotic relationships to overcome their sense of aloneness. The masochist seeks to lose himself in a stronger power. He submits to avoid feelings of aloneness and anxiety. Less obviously, the sadistic person, too, depends on someone outside himself to feel a sense of strength. Fromm saw bureaucracies in contemporary society as the ideal place for sadomasochism to flourish as people exert control over underlings and submit to the control of their managers. We seek power over others, Fromm said, when we lack the power to be. Symbiotic unions, Fromm said, differ from real love in that in real love one retains one’s individuality and integrity and one desires to see the other grow into the person she is. Fromm said if a person can only love one other, he is symbiotically attached. Genuine love, he said, is an orientation one has to the world. You can’t genuinely love one person without loving all people, he felt, without loving life. Police, Firemen, EMS, Ambulance Drivers, Security Guards, Citizen Vigilantes using RED cars, RED trucks, wearing or carrying RED - probably Our Neighborhood Watch Groups - are Gang Stalking average citizens. youtube/user/bonnieleec stopgangstalkingpolicecom fascisminamerica Demand An Investigation into Government Gang Stalking thenation/article/178813/why-we-need-new-church-committee-fix-our-broken-intelligence-system#
