1 day later, and a whole lot better. After my night dive, the day - TopicsExpress

1 day later, and a whole lot better. After my night dive, the day before yesterday, I immediately had diarrhea. In fact I ran almost directly to my cabin from the boat. That fist night I must have gone to the toilet more than 15 times, but that wasnt the worst of it. I felt incredibly weak and dizzy. It felt like my body weighed five times as much as normal, making it a struggle each time I went to the toilet. But that wasnt the worst thing either. My brain wasnt working right. I was awake, but I thought like I was in a dream. For example my brain told me that if I move one to the right or left, Id not only be fine, Id be fantastic. I kept trying to figure out what one I needed to move, and how I could move it. But the very worst thing was that dizziness and weakness are symptoms of decompression illness. I was really afraid Id have to be airlifted to a decompression chamber. It took over an hour for my irrational mind to realize that diarrhea is not a symptom, so Id probably be ok. I think the weakness and dizziness were actually caused by dehydration. When I forced myself to start drinking a lot of water, both of those symptoms subsided. At breakfast time I stumbled out to the office to tell them about my illness. They gave me a package of activated carbon pellets. They really helped. Each time I took them the cramping and gas pain subsided for a couple of hours, whereas my Imodium ad didnt help at all. I slept throughout the day yesterday, gradually improving. I finally ate an apple just before going to sleep last night. Today I feel pretty good. I still have slight cramping, and Im not regular yet. Luckily, today Im transferring from Bunaken to Lembeh. So I have another day to recover without missing any dives.
